GREG BLACK JR. WINS!

greg-randy-240.jpg

Atlanta’s own Greg Black Jr. added to his celebrated amateur bowling tournament wins on Sunday, October 19, 2008 by bowling magnificently on a VERY difficult “Sports Pattern” (modeled after the US Open) to defeat Randy Russell 268-189, to win the 2008 Fall Scratch-Fest Singles Championship held at AMF Snellville Lanes in Snellville, GA.

Greg Black Jr., holder of over 20 previous amateur bowling titles actually made an incredibly tough pattern look easy in the final match.  This type of sports pattern is known for turning 230 bowlers into humble 175 shooters (and below), simply because there is no room for error, and it’s all about shot-making and spare-shooting.  Normally, there are very few big scores, which was actually the case for this entire tournament.  But, in the Championship Match, Mr. Black struck his way to an amazing 268 game to win. FYI - for any of you out there who know a thing or two about bowling on this type of sports pattern… this was truly, TRULY incredible bowling.

“For a minute it looked like Greg would be out of the tournament, then he did that ‘Greg Black Jr. thing’ …and turned it up like 10 notches at the last minute. I don’t know HOW he does that all the time…”

- Isom Hawes

“Mr. Greg Black, Jr., truly personified what it means to be a "great" bowler. He never quits, and knows how to make the adjustments necessary to bowl on any conditions. And not one time did he complain. He bowled a 150 the first game of the semi-finals, but he continued to adjust and make corrections while others did not, or could not, and it showed”.
